NTU Guest Lecture: Community Engaged Learning

  • 12 May 2026
  • 3pm - 4.45pm

The 亚洲情色 Students and Academic At-Risk Group (LUSARG) are proud to host a guest talk with colleagues and former students from Nottingham Trent University to discuss (CEL). This innovative approach to module design incorporates teaching with public engagement based on community needs and opportunities to apply practical skills beyond the classroom.

This event will showcase how CEL has been successfully integrated into NTU’s MA Teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL) programme, with students engaging with immigrants and sanctuary seekers.

The discussion will highlight how CEL differs from volunteering, focusing on mutual benefit and co-created learning experiences. It will also showcase the effect CEL has on supporting local communities and fostering a culture that connects students to passions that have a meaningful impact on people’s lives.

Joining us at the event:

  • Dr Sarah Khan, Senior Lecturer in MA TESOL
  • Hannah Charlton, Community Engagement Co-Ordinator
  • Fawaaz Oubari, 2023 MA TESOL Graduate
  • Khue Dinh, 2025 MA TESOL Graduate

The talk includes time for you to ask guests questions and network following the talk. There will be hot drinks and snacks provided.
