Outline of main research interests:

The prime focus of Sarah’s research is on the application and development of methods for predicting the unavailability and unreliability of complex and novel systems across various industries.

Recent research projects include:

  • Resilience modelling
    • Development of resilience methodology to model the performance of nuclear reactors. This approach considers not only the availability of systems but also their ability to recover in the presence of failure
  • Application and enhancement of reliability methods to optimise system performance.
    • Enhancing the performance of Automated guided vehicles by modelling their operation and maintenance using petri nets.
    • Applying fault trees, petri nets, and bond graphs to improve the reliability of PEM fuel cells.
    • Improving the performance of off shore wind turbines
  • Risk and Reliability generation methods.
    • Automated petri net model generation in order for more timely reliability assessment of systems to be undertaken in the design phase.
  • Modelling Service Support System Reliability
  • Reliability modelling of phased missions.
  • Vehicle Safety and new hazard analysis technologies
