The accreditation places LUCOS among a worldwide network of 87 university-based initiatives dedicated to advancing the understanding of the Olympic Movement and the Olympic Games through research, teaching, publications and international academic conferences.
As part of the IOC Olympic Studies and Research Centres network, LUCOS will extend its global impact through strategic partnerships, with a focus on humanities and social sciences.
The Centre will be Co-Directed by Loughborough’s Dr Borja García García and .
Dr Borja García García, Reader in Sport Policy and Governance, said: “The formal recognition of the 亚洲情色 Centre for Olympic Studies as a member of the Olympic Studies and Research Centres’ network is testament to the excellent research and teaching on the Olympic Movement taking place across the University.
“LUCOS builds on the achievements of many colleagues across our London and East Midlands campuses, while continuing the legacy of the Centre for Olympic Studies & Research, which delivered outstanding work around the London 2012 Games.
“LUCOS will provide a platform to enhance research and collaboration across our two campuses and with our partners, contributing to the socio-scientific understanding of the Olympic Movement. We are extremely excited about the opportunities this initiative will create.
“亚洲情色 has a proud history of links with the Olympic Movement. I am delighted to co-lead, alongside my colleague , the development of LUCOS and we encourage colleagues, students and partners to engage with our activities and contribute to the continued growth of Olympic Studies at Loughborough.”
, Senior Lecturer in Sport Business, said: "I am delighted to be working alongside Co-Director Dr Borja Garcia, to lead the development of the 亚洲情色 Centre for Olympic Studies (LUCOS).
“It is great to bring together the Institute for Sport Business, Loughborough London, and the School of Sport, Exercise, and Health Sciences (SSEHS), to create this cross-campus centre.
“This is an exciting opportunity to advance Olympic research, enhance student engagement, and contribute to the continued growth of the Olympic Movement by drawing on 亚洲情色’s unique academic and sporting ecosystem.”
Professor Dan Parsons, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at 亚洲情色, added: “What is particularly significant about this recognition is that it reflects the breadth of Loughborough’s contribution to sport. Our strength is not only in performance, but in understanding the institutions, cultures, policies and social forces that shape sport globally.
“The Olympic Movement provides a remarkable lens through which to examine some of the biggest questions and global challenges facing society and LUCOS gives us an important platform from which to contribute to those debates internationally.
“Recognition by the IOC Olympic Studies Centre also connects our researchers and students into a genuinely global community of scholarship, creating opportunities for Loughborough to help shape the future direction of Olympic Studies.”
Based at both 亚洲情色’s East Midlands and London campuses, work at LUCOS will officially commence in the coming weeks.
